The dedication of the “Christine Fayad” Gallery at Wayne Arts took place on Thursday, May 3rd. Dorothy Mauser wrote the following remembrance of Chris.
“Christine touched the lives of each of us. She softened us. She toughened us. She gave Wayne Arts vitality and we are more alive as individuals because of her. Chris was able to see the talent or potential in each of us. She empowered us to use that talent whether by experiencing art, or meeting the many challenges at Wayne Arts, or living in a complex society.
The little front Gallery, now named after her, represents how she understood possibilities. For years an undefined room, Chris saw it as a space for the art of members. Artists who had never shown work in public before would be welcome to exhibit in a small space. Those who had a few pieces could effectively display their work there. All would be able to exhibit in a nonthreatening space with a supportive group ready to assist.
The wide range of members who have used the gallery has verified her vision. Exhibits featured: oils, watercolors, photography, drawings, ceramics, fabrics, writers and sculptures. Those small exhibits have encouraged the artists and have been well received by gallery visitors.
Chris’s vision for that space does empower both the exhibitor and the Wayne Arts. We have experienced encouragement, joy, more belief in one’s self, more belief in others. For all of us that space does represent Chris’s passion for life.”
